Why Advertise on the Internet?
A few years ago, hardly anyone advertised on the Internet. Nowadays most large to medium organisations have web sites. Very soon, communication by means of the Internet will be the first choice of potential contacts. Small businesses and clubs are falling behind the competition, mainly because of concern about the cost.
Compare the cost of a simple website with, for example, a magazine advert
or an entry in a telephone directory, and remember, your website can reach out to millions
of people worldwide. The site will be available for viewing 24 hours a day, 7 days
a week. You can include far more information on your website than in an average size
advertisement, and customers will able to contact you directly. Your site can
be updated as often as you like.
The Internet is a network that connects computers worldwide.
Messages can be sent via electronic mail, rapidly, and for the cost of a local phone
call. Powerful computers called "servers" host millions of web
pages, and any client with an Internet connection can visit these pages.
How do people find the page they want?
There are three basic ways:-
a) Every page has a unique address which can be advertised in the normal way, e.g. on
business stationery.
b)The address, and a description of the page can be loaded onto "search
engines". These are programs which index websites, and potential clients can use
them to "surf" the Internet for sites which meet their requirements.
At Parmaq Management we include on every website special coding with key words so that
your site is more likely to be picked up by the people who are looking for what you have
to offer. There are hundreds of search engines, but only a few are frequently used.
c)If users with a web site of their own think yours is a useful one to know about,
they may well include a link to your site on theirs. At Parmaq we include a link to
our site from evey site we design. Likewise, we could put links to your site from
ours, so potential customers can see an example of our designs.
The copyright in your material remains yours. We will include a copyright statement to that effect on your page.
How often should my page be updated?
That's up to you, of course, but customers will be more interested in up-to-date sites. You can include a timestamp on your site so customers will at once see how fresh the information is.
We retain administrative control, and
carry out the updates according to your instructions.
Do I need an Internet connection?
If you have an Internet connection you may well have some free web space as a part of the package, where your site can be hosted. You will have an E-mail account, so the address can be linked to your site and customers can contact you directly. If you have no connection, then you will have to pay for your site to be hosted (small hosting services usually start at £7-10 per month, with a setup fee of about £18).
