My 2005 diary 25 January A very eventful day. Woke up at 6.30 for a telephone interview on the Danny Baker Breakfast Show at 6.50am about Whiteley's Folly. Danny has a keen interest in Victoriana, and it is a pleasure to talk to someone who is as fascinated with the subject as I am. At 6.30 pm I was at the British Library to give a talk about the book. Wonderful turnout even though the weather was very poor. I was really pleased to see such a large and interested audience, and thoroughly enjoyed the event. I also managed to fit in a meeting with my editor to discuss what is going to be my next project. From now on it will be research and writing. 11 March Gave a talk on the discovery of chloroform at the Royal Society of Chemistry History Section conference. Everyone was very welcoming and I had a wonderful time. 18 April I was at Whiteley Village today, recording a radio programme, part of the Big Fish Small Ponds series. The weather was unexpectedly good and the village looked so pretty! It was a great afternoon. 28 July Live radio, always a bit nerve-wracking - I was at broadcasting house participating in Material World, which for half the programme was about chloroform. But the presenter put everyone at their ease and it all went well. 20 August Cheltenham and Gloucester for book signings for my latest publication Gloucestershire Murders. A big thank-you to everyone at Sutton Publishing who organised this - it was a great day! 3 September Took part in the annual Walthamstow Festival. This event has got bigger and better each year, and I was especially impressed with the Arts Trail. The Forest Writers Group gave readings of their work, and there was a good and appreciative audience. 26 October Attended a half day conference on the history of Forensic Science at the Royal Institution. Some really excellent talks. 28 November Arts Club event in Walthamstow. Local crime writers including myself talked about their work and answered questions. An interesting evening. I am impressed by the amount of Arts interest and activity in Walthamstow. 14 December Hosted the annual Xmas party of the Forest Writers of which I am now a member. |
